GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG, 10th. October, 1913.

424

I have the honour to request your approval

under clause 19 of the Pension Minute of the commutation by a five years payment from Hongkong Punds of the pension of Chan Leung Pat, particulars of which are given on the accompanying form. I enclose a certificate by Dr. Davenport, Medical Officer to His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General at Canton, with regard to the man's

expectation of life.

2.

Chan joined the Hongkong Post Office in 1863 and was transferred to the Canton Agency in 1893. Successive Agents at Canton have reported upon his loyalty and diligence.

3.

In view of this almost unique record of long and

faithful service Sir Henry May before his departure considered a

recommendation by the Postmaster-General that Chan's name should be

placed before you as a suitable condidate for the Imperial Service

Medal. It has, however, been ascertained that he would prefer any token of appreciation of his services in the form of a bonus and

accordingly recommend for your favourable consideration that Chan Leung Pat be granted a bonus of $150 from Hongkong Funds.

I have the honour to be, El

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Claud Sever

Officer Administering the Government.
